Reference Letter Planner
If you are requesting a reference letter for a scholarship, award, program, bursary, or post-secondary application, completing a Reference Letter Planner can help your counsellor or teacher write a much stronger and more detailed letter on your behalf.
The planner allows you to showcase your achievements and experiences by providing information about:
- Your top Grade 11 and 12 courses and marks
- Post-secondary plans, programs, and career goals
- Community service and volunteer activities
- School involvement, clubs, teams, and leadership roles
- Community activities such as sports, arts, cadets, or other organizations
- Awards, honours, and recognitions
- Paid employment and workplace experience
- Significant volunteer, leadership, or service experiences and their impact on you
- Any financial need or personal challenges that may be relevant to scholarship applications
Tips for completing the planner:
- Use point form.
- Be specific about dates, grade levels, and years of involvement.
- Include organization names, leadership positions, and estimated hours where applicable.
- Provide as much detail as possible so your accomplishments can be accurately reflected in a reference letter.
Taking the time to complete the planner thoroughly helps ensure your reference letter highlights your strengths, contributions, and potential in the best possible way.
Counsellor's Note: Even if you are not currently applying for a scholarship, I encourage you to begin keeping track of your volunteer work, activities, awards, employment, and leadership experiences. Having this information organized will make future scholarship, bursary, and post-secondary applications much easier.
