What are Medical Lab Assistants?
Medical laboratory assistants do pre-analytical functions. This involves, for example, collecting blood samples (phlebotomy), processing and moving specimens, and preparing special chemicals (called reagents) for use in testing. In BC, medical laboratory assistants also perform electrocardiograms. Click here for more information
Who is Eligible?
- High School students who have or will have graduated in either 2021 or 2022
- OR Aboriginal Job Seekers of any age
Applicants must meet the entry requirements of a BC Society of Laboratory Science approved program (list of approved programs found here)
- Virtual or In-Person Available
- Courses are typically 8 months
Medical Lab Assistants admission requirements vary by program but typically include:
- Grade 12 or equivalent
- English 12 with a min ‘B’ grade
